©MEAL 2019 Minfdul Eating Active Living

In 2017 Amita attended a 10 day silent retreat at the Great Vow Buddhist Monastery in Clatskanie, OR.  That is the inspiration for her copyrighted program for mindful eating, ©MEAL 2019.    MEAL stands for Mindful Eating Active Living, and incorporates mindfulness principals applied to food and eating, as well as to movement, utilizing the practice of yoga.   

What is mindful eating?

Mindful eating is deliberately paying attention while eating, being fully aware of what is happening both inside yourself - in your body, heart, and mind - and outside yourself, in your environment. Mindful eating involves awareness without criticism or judgment.

Why eat mindfully?

Mindful eating helps us rediscover the joy and delight inherent in the simple acts of eating and drinking. Mindful eating brings about change from the inside. Mindful eating replaces self-criticism with self-nurturing. Mindful eating helps us rediscover our body's wisdom and to reduce our dependence upon external rules such as charts, tables, or scales. It allows us to honor our inner wisdom. 

Why active living?

In the program of ©MEAL we understand that the body and mind are integrally connected, and we cannot improve one without the other.  This starts with first accepting where we are today and then working on making the changes we want to make in our lives for a healthier tomorrow.  The active living focus of this program helps us address our negative self-image by appreciating what our bodies can do.  Such as stand, walk, run, bend and dance.  We take so much for granted when we constantly focus on what we don’t have instead of what we can already be grateful for.  In this 8-week program participants will learn to slow down and connect their minds and bodies and improve their ability to hear their body’s message about what and how much to eat.
